Local ish Campsites

A very non-exhaustive list of Scout Campsites in the surrounding area

A few local(ish) campsites to peruse…

A slightly wider selection

Please bear in mind that Runway’s End is no longer a Scout campsite, and is run by the local council.  The national Scouts adventurous activity permits may not be sufficient for leaders to run their own activities such as archery, rifle shooting, or climbing.

Rick’s Recommendations (in no particular order, and to be expanded with those from other Leaders as they are provided):

  • Earlywood – Quiet, simple, down-to-earth campsite.  Great wardens.  Good for hammocks!
  • Bentley Copse – If you want an easy activity-based camp, this is the (local) place to go.  Lots of on-site options, large pitches and fields, lots of places for wide games.
  • Ferny Crofts – Great access to the New Forest, easy drive to local towns and activities, reasonable number of on-site activities
  • Polyapes – Smaller site, cosy setup, usual on-site activities.
  • Walton Firs – Great campsite, lots of self led activities available on top of the standard array of instructor led activities.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
