Typhoon Troop get in the Air!

Date: 29th Jun 2022 Author: Rick Hooper

Typhoon Scout Troop – our Air Scouts – finally got into the Air in June ’22 with a Parascending day hosted by GLSW & Surrey Paragliding Club – run by Scout Leaders (who also provide this activity at some County level camps such as ScoutAbout in Surrey).  They are also the British Team for international Paragliding events with a fantastic international reputation!

Our older Scouts were joined by some our local Explorers and enjoyed a day of parascending… But they had to work for it!  Working as Wing-Tippers to help with lift-off and running all of the landing jobs – most got to ride in the land rover as part of their help as well.

With the weather shifting we were still lucky enough to get between 80 and 120 feet in the air, with three goes each.  Some of the Leaders even joined in! (some more loudly than others)

All in all a brilliant day, and with a very good impression made to the club we’re looking to return regularly and see what more we can do with them.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
