Date: 22nd Jan 2022

Odiham District Scouts are launching the fundraising for their 2023 expeditions by offering supporters the opportunity to buy a balloon to take part in a 7-day virtual balloon race using real weather data.
The district has 27 young people selected to attend one of two fantastic opportunities in 2023, the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea or a 3 week Hampshire Scouts expedition to Europe known as ‘Project 23’. A substantial proportion of whom are in our 100th Elvetham Heath Scout Group
Additionally, three adult volunteers have been selected to be unit leaders supporting the young people on the expeditions. The cost of the young people and leaders participating in these once in a lifetime events is considerable, totalling £80,000 across the group.

The balloon race is a fun and easy way to raise funds, with a low entry cost, which we hope children, young people and adults will all enjoy. We are hoping to raise over £3000 to kickstart our fundraising.Expeditions 23 Group Chair, Alex Yates
For £4 participants can buy a balloon, design it, including altering its shape, colour, helium content and rubber thickness, and then track its progress on an hourly basis over the week-long simulated race. Balloons will be “launched” from Manchester at noon on 8th March. There are prizes for the 12 balloons which travel the furthest including a £500 cash prize and an Apple iPad.
